On February 16th, 2010 Walter O. Rutski answered his Final Alarm

The North Hornell Fire Department has many things going on in 2010.

First is our Annual Booster Drive which is a combination of Fund Raiser, Information Gathering and Membership Recruitment Drive, this starts in January and end in April. In April we hold our annual Chicken Barbeque, In July we hold our annual Garage Sale and have a rest stop at the fire hall for all the people doing garage sales in the Village. In August we hold our annual Fire Department Family Picnic. We hold a Boot Drive every year on the Week of September 11th. In addition to all of our other Fire Prevention Week activities at the schools and other presentations, the department holds it annual Awards Banquet. This is a formal affair with the Fire Fighter and their significant other in attendance. We hold a Halloween Party for the kids on Halloween night and also patrol the village to make sure the little trick and treaters have a safe night. We also held a Christmas/Winter raffle, this year we raffled a snow-blower. To finish off the year we hold a Christmas Parade with Santa for the families get together this is a family affair when the fireman kids ride the trucks. More activities are planned with the completion of the new fire station in 2010.

The Department is always raising funds to supplement our Village and Town funds. In 2009 we were able to purchase a 4500 PSI air compressor for filling our Rescue Air Packs. . We also are equipping our new rescue truck which was purchased with last years annual fund drive funds and we also purchased a set of Jaws of Life. We also finished equipping our Ladder truck in 2009.

But there are other tools we need. These tools as you can imagine are expensive. The proceeds of this years fund drives will be used to offset these projects which were started last year and to finish the Rescue Truck which is one of this years projects.

We still need to purchase a bottle fill station with OSHA requires which will cost us $ 8300 to complete the system. This year we also will be purchasing Tables and chairs for our new Fire Station /Shelter & Community Center this way if we have an emergency, people who come to the shelter will have a place to sit and eat. This will also give us the ability to have fund raisers in the new station and we will also be able to have community events. Currently we do not have any tables and chairs suitable for this purpose. This will cost us approx $ 5000.

Best Regards,
Walt Rutski
President
